The Necronomicon, Harlow Edition

Professional artist Joel Harlow brings us this stunning interpretation of the Necronomicon.  It's a nice change of pace from the typical human face approach.  As much as I love the "Evil Dead" films I think it's time to retire that particular take on the Necronomicon.

That’s a nice piece of interpretative sculpture. The level of detail is quite good and you need to click on the picture to get the full sized image to appreciate the amount of thought and work that went into this piece of art. It sets me to compare it to medieval religious art illustrating Hell.

Well at this point I'm pretty much at a loss for words.

Very nice!

I agree about the "human face" Necronomicon concept. It's a good idea, but it's become cliched and there are so many other interesting ways to approach the Necronomicon.

I've always been a fan of elegant simplicity. This is a beautiful sculpt, but it feels like, well, a movie prop (even more so for the Evil Dead version). This may seem ludicrously obvious, but I find the more realistic "old book" style far, FAR creepier. I want it to look like an occult priest might have actually used the damned (literally) thing.

I'd also like to see more emphasis on the Lovecraftian elements. Too often it's made into a generic "summon demons" thing, instead of dealing with necromancy and the Elder Gods
